About the Authors
Sonia Ford
Sonia Ford is a Mathematics Instructor at Midland College in Midland, Texas.  She has been teaching both developmental and transfer level courses at Midland College since 2002.  Before becoming a full-time faculty member at Midland College, Sonia taught high school Algebra and Geometry classes in both New Mexico and Texas.
Sonia has taught Basic Mathematics through Calculus at Midland College.  In the last two years, Sonia has developed and taught online courses in College Algebra and Pre-Calculus; in addition to hybrid classes in Introductory Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and College Algebra.
Sonia has earned an M.A. and B.S. in Mathematics from Eastern New Mexico University, and in December 2006, completed certification in online instruction from the Learning Resources Network.
Kathryn (Kay) Hodge
Kathryn (Kay) Hodge is a Mathematics Professor at Midland College. She has been on faculty at Midland College since 1988. Kay came to Midland College with a varied background of teaching experience. She has taught most of the classes included in the high school and junior high curriculum. Her public school experiences included courses from developmental mathematics through honors algebra and geometry courses, with an occasional computer mathematics course. She developed an honors pre-calculus course for one district and directed one-act plays, in addition to her teaching load, at another. Kay’s background experience includes six years of teaching in elementary school.
At Midland College, Kay has taught from Pre-Algebra through Calculus II. Many semesters have included several levels of algebra, developmental through transfer level. She has taught courses designed for elementary school teachers and for liberal arts majors. Kay recently participated in a Title V grant project targeting improvement of developmental instruction through the use of technology. Kay is experienced in instruction in a traditional classroom, distance education— using two-way interactive video, and online.
Kay earned a B. A. in English [strong minor in mathematics], M. A. in mathematics, Ed. D. in education from Texas Tech University.
