About the Author
Gene Silverblatt received a BA in Economics and and in Political Science in 1977 from Dickinson College and his JD in 1980 from the University of Dayton School of Law. He received his commission in the U.S.
Army in 1977 and served in the U.S. Army’s Judge Advocate Corps, including a number of annual tours as a JAG in the Office of the
Judge Advocate General (at the Pentagon and later across the river in Rosslyn, Virginia), as a guest instructor at the Army’s law school,
and in a number of field exercises in Korea, Panama, and Germany. He was called back to active duty as part of Operation
Enduring Freedom, serving as Staff Judge Advocate for the 4003d Garrison Support Unit for whom he oversaw the legal
affairs of more than ten thousand reservists mobilizing at Fort Hood. He is a graduate of the Army J.A.G. Corp’s basic
and advanced course programs as well as the Army’s Command and Staff College program. He retired in the spring of 2005
at the rank of Colonel.
Gene has taught at Central Texas College since 1983 and has served as the director of its Paralegal and Legal Assistant
Program since 1992. Among the courses he teaches is Military Law and National Security Issues. He is in the process
of developing a degree program in Homeland Security-Emergency Planning.
He is the owner and senior counsel of Silverblatt Law Office
