Securing a WLAN for Home/Small Office: Lab Activities

Here are 3 suggested lab exercises for the class to work on in teams under the leadership of the instructor. These activities were developed using a Linksys BEFW11S4 router. Each activity contains additional reading material, and or web resources. These should be given to the students with sufficient time prior to each lab period to give them adequate time to read the material and be prepared.

1. Securing a WLAN using Windows XP Service Pack 2, and WEP and MAC address access control lists.

2. Setting up a VPN using Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP Service Pack 2.
   • This activity is contained in the document VPN Setup.
3. Setting up a VPN using Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP Service Pack 2, Linux, and SmoothWall Express.
   • This activity is contained in the document VPN Setup2.
   • This is a challenging four-part activity.
