This day-long workshop is free of charge to department/program chairs in South Texas.

Department and program chairs have one of the most difficult jobs on the college campus. Chairs must manage faculty and schedules, juggle classrooms, and teach, all while projecting an image of leadership.

The purpose of the South Texas Leadership Academy is to help department and program chairs develop their human resource skills by developing the following areas within their department:

• The Voice of Leadership
• Leadership Styles
• Team Building

9 a.m. - Welcome
9:15 a.m. - Keynote Presentation "Leadership Compass"
10:30 a.m. - Break
10:45 a.m. - Interactive workshop
Noon - Lunch
1:30 p.m. - Breakout sessions
2:30 p.m. - Break
3 p.m. - Roundtable Discussion
4:30 p.m. - Planning Session for spring 2005 conference and selection of conference committee

Chairs will work to identify ways in which they can develop their leadership skills with their faculty, administration, and most of all with their students.

South Padre Island is located on the southern-most coastline of Texas. Participants may want to take advantage of the weekend's activities by bringing family members and making a weekend of it. Participants will receive one night's stay free of charge at the Holiday Inn SunSpree. An additional night can be reserved starting at $69 per night.
