Subtopic 1: Activities

Convergence is a rapidly growing area that will require trained professionals to fill the available jobs.  Industry has recognized the importance of this field with the creation of two certifications.  Colleges and universities have begun offering degrees and certificates in this evolving area.  Successful completion of the subtopic activities assures that students have gained an understanding of the subtopic concepts.

Activity 1.1

This activity will familiarize students with the range of technical skills required for convergence technologists. Students will perform research, analyze their findings, and present their conclusions.

Student Procedure

Research 2 degree and/or certificate programs in Convergence Technology from colleges or universities. Create a list of the courses or subjects they have in common.

Student Self-Assessment

Students will be able to self assess their comprehension of the subtopic based on the quality of their review. Further assessment may be gauged via group discussion.

Instructor Information

Activity level of Difficulty: Beginner
Suggested teaching strategies: Instructor could lead students to find the required specifications. The instructor could lead students in group discussions to compare multiple results.
Assessment: Instructors should assess this activity based on the timeliness and quality of research and participation in group discussions.

Activity 1.2

This activity will familiarize students with job opportunities and income potential in the convergence field. Students will perform research, analyze their findings, and present their conclusions.

Student Procedure

Perform research to find several examples of job announcements related to the convergence fields.
Describe the skills employers desire and the salaries offered.

Student Self-Assessment

Students will be able to self assess their comprehension of the subtopic based on the quality of their synopsis. Further assessment may be gauged via group discussion and/or student presentations.

Activity level of difficulty: Beginner
Suggested teaching strategies: Instructor could suggest sources for students to research.
Assessment: Instructors should assess student success based on the quality of research performed and the accuracy of their research.

Activity 1.3

This activity will familiarize students with the certifications available in the convergence field. Students will perform research, analyze their findings, and present their conclusions.

Student Procedure

Research two types of certifications available to convergence professionals. Explain the skills needed to successfully acquire these certifications and the processes involved in obtaining them.

Students will be able to self assess their comprehension of the subtopic based on the quality of their research. Further assessment may be gauged via group discussion and/or student presentations.
